“ I've been wanting to try here for a while and finally came for dine LA. It did not disappoint. I'd heard great things about the Hokkaido milk bread and it's true, it's amazing. The dine LA menu was a great value and we liked everything we had- karaage, veggie roll, pork tonkotsu, steak. The milk pudding was unique and also very tasty. It's a gorgeous space inside and our servers were so friendly. Will definitely come back. ”

“ Server was helpful, had a great sense of humor, and made the experience even better! Our table decided to go family style which worked out quite nicely. Milk buns with the tobiko spread was delicious. Milk buns were warm, fluffy, slightly sweet and the saltiness of the spread complements the sweetness of the bread. I could eat the spread with a spoon. White sesame Caesar salad was my favorite of the night. This is a must! The cut of pork used for the tonkatsu was juicy and flavorful, crust was crispy, and the sauce was what we are familiar with. Mapo pacherri pasta had a nice kick but not overwhelming. Pasta had a firm bite and held the sauce, a very nice balance. Pacific gold oysters were smaller in size than we have had before but had a nice brine and refreshing passion fruit sauce. Oysters were shucked nicely, not a bit of shell! Hot chicken karaage had a different twist to what we normally have and my karaage connoisseur approved. The truffle fried rice was good but nothing to write home about. I'm looking forward to coming back to try other menu items! ”

“ We went to RYLA during Dine LA Feb 2024 and overall, it was a mixed bag. The interior is a bit dark and can get a bit crowded and there were a couple dishes that we weren't a big of a fan of, but there were also some dishes we really liked. We had a reservation and were immediately seated as soon as we checked in, and despite being busy, helped put in our happy hour orders before the 6pm deadline! Ultimately, we ordered the Dine LA menu alongside a few appetizers to get a taste of various things on the menu. Big Eye Tuna Hand Roll (5/5): Rich, buttery, and generously portioned. The nori is crisp and the tuna is high quality and has a tinge of citrus to it. A must-order. Tai Snapper (5/5): The soup was full of umami and the fish beautifully cooked with a crisp skin face-up. I would come back just for this dish, though I'm not entirely sure it's on the regular menu. Hokkaido Milk Bread (4.5/5): Bread itself was great - crisp on the outside, fluffy and buttery on the inside. The sauce pairing was polarizing. I thought it was an interesting alternative to eating the bread plain, my friend wasn't a fan of the combination of sweet and savory. Fish Karaage (4/5): Really reminiscent of fish and chips. Not the best fish and chips I've ever had, but still tasty and worked well with the pairing of a spicy mayo sauce. Skirt Steak (3.5/5): Though it looked cooked perfectly, we thought the steak was still a bit too tough - maybe it's just the quality of the cut. The flavor was fine, but felt especially underwhelming compared to the Tai snapper. Soy Pudding (3/5): The pudding, churro, and blackberries were fine, but the pairing with the sorbet was a bit strange with how intensely tart the sorbet was. We felt that there was very little cohesion between the pudding and the sorbet. Nashville-style Fried Chicken (2/5): Our chicken was a kind of dry overall, which already wasn't great, but we were especially confused by the sesame sauce pairing for this item. We really didn't like the sauce pairing for this dish and used the spicy mayo from the fish karaage instead. Veggie Roll (2/5): We really only ordered this to have some sort of vegetable in our meal... it tasted very strongly of shiso, which isn't inherently a bad thing, but neither of us liked this enough to ever order this again off the regular menu. Overall, the food on the Dine LA menu was really hit-or-miss, but I'd still be interested in coming back for their regular menu and trying other popular items off the menu. ”

“ I dined here with two friends this past Friday night as part of Dine LA, and we had an amazing time. While we did have to wait a bit for our reserved table, the hostess was incredibly apologetic and sweet, setting a welcoming tone right from the start. The vibes in this cozy establishment were immaculate - warm, inviting, and perfect for a night out. Two of us opted for the Dine LA prix fixe menu while our third friend went for sushi which looked and sounded incredibly fresh. For my selections, I had the Chicken Karaage and Skirt Steak, and both were delicious. The Spicy Tuna Handroll was a standout because it was so rich and fatty, I wouldn't be surprised if it was toro. The Soy Milk Pudding dessert was good but by then I was already stuffed! While the skirt steak wasn't the same cut as their usual menu offering, it was still juicy and cooked to perfection. The chicken karaage, despite being described as hot chicken, wasn't spicy at all but it was moist and flavorful albeit a bit greasy. I definitely have to mention the Hokkaido Milk Bread, OMG it was so good and the "seaweed" butter was something I had never had before yet really, really good. Meanwhile, our sushi-loving friend ordered the Yuzu Scallop Roll, Blue Crab California Roll, and two pieces of Bluefin Tuna Nigiri, all of which were impeccably fresh. He also had two Hitachino White Ales, which were pricier than expected, but hey c'est la vie. A huge shoutout to our server, Zora H., who was patient, friendly, and so accommodating to our silliness throughout the night. She truly enhanced our experience. Overall, RYLA delivered a 5-star experience and I can't wait to come back for another meal. Highly recommend! ”

“ Ryla in Hermosa Beach has been on my list to try ever since it opened in 2022! I finally got the chance to check it out for brunch during dineLA. dineLA was offering an amazing deal for $35, which included two courses of some of Ryla's best dishes, along with a cup of Lavazza coffee. For the first course, you could choose from a White Sesame Caesar Salad, Japanese Egg Salad Avocado Toast, Tuna Poke Tostada, and Japanese Pancake. The second course options were Ryla's Breakfast Sandwich, Shoyu Ramen, Pork Belly Eggs Benedict, and Crispy Taiwanese Egg Crepe. My friend and I decided to order different items so we could try a variety. For the first course, we chose the Japanese Egg Salad Avocado Toast and the Japanese Pancake. For the second course, we ordered the Shoyu Ramen and the Pork Belly Eggs Benedict. I've always been a fan of avocado toast, and Ryla's version did not disappoint! The egg salad, made with dill, cumin, golden sesame, puffed white wild rice, and, of course, avocado, was incredibly creamy and delightful. My only critique was the bread--it was a Tommy and Atticus sourdough, but it was a bit tough and hard to eat. It would have been much better if it were softer. Still, overall, this was a fantastic avocado toast! The Japanese Pancake, our other first course, was equally impressive. I noticed it being served at many tables, and for good reason. The pancake was soft, fluffy, and topped with blueberry compote, drizzled with salted butter maple syrup. It was absolutely delicious--definitely a winner! For our second course, I started with the Shoyu Ramen. As a ramen enthusiast, I had high expectations! The ramen featured a soy-flavored pork broth, pork belly, ramen egg, mizuna, and black garlic oil. The pork belly was lean, and the noodles were long and silky, which were the highlights. However, the broth left something to be desired. The black garlic oil was subtle, and I wished it had been more flavorful. Additionally, the soy-flavored pork broth was a bit too salty for my taste. While the ramen was decent, I would probably skip it on a future visit. Lastly, we had the Pork Belly Eggs Benedict, which was another popular dish. I can see why--it was outstanding! The dish featured perfectly runny poached eggs, soft house-made English muffins, wild arugula, and a citrusy yuzu hollandaise. The tender pork belly was incredible when combined with the rich egg yolk and tangy yuzu hollandaise. This was absolutely amazing! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Ryla! I left feeling full and satisfied, and the dineLA offer was definitely worth it. I highly recommend taking advantage of dineLA if they offer it again in the future! A few tips: Make sure to make a reservation and arrive early for parking. My friend and I were glad we made a reservation because the place was packed on a Sunday. The crowd is a clear sign of how popular and good the restaurant is. As for parking, Hermosa Beach can be tricky. There's street parking, but there's also a parking garage across the street. If you get lucky, you might find free three-hour parking in the first spots on the lower level of the garage. ”

“ RYLA is the definition of good service. Their staff was so attentive and kind. We came for a birthday celebration and they brought over a complimentary matcha tiramisu and a little birthday card that was signed by the staff. I've never seen a restaurant sign a card for a birthday and our whole group loved it - unique and made the birthday girl feel very special! We went during the Dine LA week so we were able to try multiple dishes and each was delicious. They didn't have a huge vegan selection, but there were multiple options for vegetarians. The hand roll was the standout for us! Also, how a restaurant handles their music is always an indication to me of how much they know what they're doing and RYLA nailed it. They had a fun house playlist and the volume was perfect, 10/10 for vibes. The menu overall was on the pricier side, but would absolutely recommend for a date night or a special occasion!! ”

“ DineLA lunch menu was affordable and DELICIOUS!!! So yummy that we booked another time to go next week to take advantage of the dineLA menu. Food standouts: -tuna tostada -white sesame Caesar salad -Japanese pancake -breakfast sandwich -pork belly eggs Benedict -shoyu ramen - kids enjoyed Drinks: -lavazza coffee - good and refillable -espresso martini - this was not on the menu but WOW! Best I've ever had, esp with that layer of cream on top *drooling* Called to book a party of 25, for a birthday. Mostly adults but we had kids, as well. Appreciate them situating us in the back room (that looked like you can turn it into a private room, if you wanted). It was a great success for us who planned it because it checked all the boxes especially when our guests were coming to us afterwards raving about the food. I'm still thinking about the tuna tostada!! They offer a shoyu kids ramen that our 9 year old boys enjoyed (plain, decent kids size and affordable). They also made it very personable by giving a hand written birthday note, from the staff, with a complimentary ube ice cream and candle. Ambiance was beautiful and clean. Service was spectacular and attentive! Thank goodness for dineLA cause we wouldn't have even known this place existed only 15 minutes away from our home. Honestly, I can't rave about this place enough because this place was an entire experience = exceptional experience! “ I've been to Ryla three times now for dinner and overall, I am a fan of this place. I love the ambience here and they have some good Asian fusion dishes. It's a great place for a date night or a birthday celebration with a small group of friends. They're usually busy so definitely make a reservation on OpenTable ahead of time. I've tried the following: - Blue Pool Oysters on Half Shell: decent oysters - White Sesame Caesar Salad: tasty, good salad option - Prosciutto, Persimmon & Red Chicory Salad: I didn't like this one and would skip next time. If you really like chicory though, you might enjoy it. - Yuzu Hokkaido Scallop Roll: So delicious! Love the yuzu flavor. I would totally get this again. - Japanese A5 Wagyu Striploin: Not the best I've had but pretty good. Enjoyed the ponzu with it. - Tteokbokki a la Vodka Sauce: As a Korean, I had higher expectations. I wished it had a slight kick but it was just like a cheesy pink-sauce pasta using rice cakes instead of pasta noodles. A bit too bland and heavy for me. I would skip next time. - Black Truffle Fried Rice: yummy! - Matcha Green Tea Tiramisu: moist and delicious, not too sweet. Very well made and I loved the cute presentation too. Service: All the servers we have had were super great. But to be honest, I have mixed feelings about the manager, Jimmy. Sometimes he comes across rude and dismissive at the front when managing seating tables with the hostess. He also could have done better when addressing an issue we had with one of our dishes but he was able to handle the situation well in the end. Parking: street/meter/valet ”

“ Food (4/5): Was the food yummy? Yes. Did it impress me? No. Would I come back to give it another shot? Yes! Starting with the spare ribs, I loved the stickiness and how it fell off the bone. This was a crowd favorite. The karaage was just ok. It was mostly breading and the chicken inside was dry. I got the ramen that had a slight lemon flavor mixed with fattiest ld pork. It needed something additional to give it a greater kick. I personally got tired of the taste quickly. As for the sushi, it was pretty standard with nothing spectacular to note. Price (3/5): Appropriate pricing for the aesthetic of the dishes, but in terms of taste and portions? I'd say the price could be knocked $2 down. Ambiance (5/5): Perfect date night or place to celebrate accomplishments, birthdays, promotions, and more. Great for families and friend groups of all sizes too.
